Sorèze.
4 minutes to the east of us, and is very quaint.
Three Excellent Boulangeries. One (opp. La poste), Cafe-bar, Restaurants, Artists shops & Galleries, Book shops- Sculpture & Antiques shops, Abbaye-Ecole de Sorèze (Royal Military School of King Louis XVI), banks (C.A)  Utilé supermarket, hairdressers, pharmacy (Doctors and Dentists opp. church) lovely car parks (free) under the plane trees by La poste....
Walk the paths by the medieval stone walls & houses, very pretty!! Office de Tourisme En-Route!
Visit the many Festivals de Sorèze.
 
Revel. (about 5 mins drive)
The Capital Home of "Reproduction" French Furniture in France. All services and many shops. It has a geometric street layout around a central square surrounded by covered galleries. The 14C covered market still has its original timber roof. The market is on a "Saturday Morning" and is a must see!!. Revel has plenty of shopping, cabinet making, a bronze factory etc etc. There are car parks aplenty and "Numerous Good Restaurants". Revel is well equipped with doctors, dentists, Pharmacies, ESTATE AGENTS (immobiliers) There is even an "Internet Café" to keep in touch if you must!!!
 

 

     
     

Durfort.  (about 7 mins drive)
The Black Mountains. At the mouth of the narrow steep sided valley of the Dor. Durfort has many family businesses creating "copper" items, (since the 1600's) Some works of art!! (they do pewter also). This very pretty village has many attractive copper/iron craft shops. A café, and restaurant & windy streets. There are good car parks (free) with toilets......Many walking routes start & finish here......Visit the Popular Charcuterie-Saucisson Shoppe !!!

Durfort Walk. A good "pretty walk" is from La Baysse or Sorèze. There are 1000's of kilometres of walks in the "Black Mountains" including The Route of St-Jaques de Compostelle, and also many "lovely villages" to visit....Office de Tourisime has route maps.
 
Bassin de Saint Ferréol. (about 5 mins drive)
This is a beach!!  "A la Montagne". Cool waters from The Black Mountains feed this reservoir of 173 acres between Pine wooded hillsides. This "Magnificent Lake" is ideal for Swimming, Sailing or just sitting and taking in the "views", Stroll the parks - woodland surrounding the lake. Visit The Rocky Waterfalls, Have a "picnic" here!!! Try to find the "Upside down Waterfall" !!!! Take un café under the pine trees or lunch at the splendid restaurants (not expensive!! - trust me!!)
 
Castres.  www.ville-castres.fr (about 30 mins drive)
A large town . Must visit. It is like a little "Venice". Take a traditional style barge to see the former "Tanners houses" and their dusty pink, lilac and green colours. "Lunch" here is essential. Enjoy Le Park de Gourjade (53 hectares). Plan a day in the very "Spanish Goya Museum" and Hotel de Poncet. Lots to see.....
Golf de Gourjade (9 holes)..par 72.. easy free parking, Lovely Course, not crowded. Also large indoor and outdoor swimming pools with restaurants nearby...........

CASTRES. split level car park opposite the tanners houses.. for visiting Castres with the River Agout passing near by.... Nice...
 
Sidobre (about 1 hours drive) D622 road
Sidobre is east of Castres.
One of the most important "Granite sites" in Europe. Big Boulders here!! loads of Circuits to Explore, great fun !!“"The World of Granite"” visiters park. Nearby is V.O.A.  Glassworks founded by Jean Jaurès.
 
Brassac  is a mountain village on the D622 has a "magnificent bridge". do visit.........
 
Albi (about 70 mins drive) is the birth place of "Toulouse-Lautrec". (1864-1901) and is worth a day or two to visit the town and museum.The "Art Gallery" of "Toulouse-Lautrec" is a Must See.....superb!!!!!!
 
Castelnaudary visit the "Canal Du Midi". Walk. Walk. The lovely tow paths, the barge locks are Unique as are the Beautiful Plane Trees that line the Canal. Castelnaudary is a must Stop for the FAMOUS Cassoulet..............
 

Toulouse. ( 1 hours drive).
So much to see so little time.!!! "Is a big city with the soul of a village"
Hotel d'Assezat Houses the Bemberg Foundation and has paintings and objects d'art from the renaissance to the twentieth century. This is our Regular Haunt !!!
Musèe St Raymond has a Rare collection of Roman sculptures etc..Interesting..
Musèe des Augustins Paintings & Roman stone artifacts.Go ! Go ! Go ! Feast for The Eyes...
Palis de la Berbie Toulouse Lautrecs. Extensive collection of over 500 pieces. On the upper floor are other famous names including Degas - Matisse - Rodin (mouth-watering stuff)
Basilique St Germine The home of Airbus  - tours of factory complex. Cité de Espace. Visit. A Wonderful trip for the Children of all Ages.... Visit the website for further details (http://www.ot-toulouse.fr/english/decouverte/ciel/aero.html)
Use the park and ride, there are "free car parks" either side.

The Fairy Tale Medieval Walled City. Go there. Your senses will "Shiver" when they see the castle and walls. Also well viewed from a distance. 14th July Bastille Day!! Fireworks display...Utterly Amazing Show !!!!!!....
 
Rose Garlic - Lautrec ( 30 mns drive)
City Médiévale Capitol de l'Ail Rose. The area of hilltop villages. Stunning scenery and views of Agout Valley - Mountain Noire - The Pyrénées. Visit the "Garlic" festival & Fete de Pain.( August).. "Best Garlic in the World" ...
Visit the "Boulangerie" just before the square for "Flambard" bread (like Ciabatta).
Also nearby !! the kids die for this WATER-PARK !!!!!!

Set at the foothill of "Lautrec"  is a superb open air aqua-park- sports arena. (open June -End August) Go A Must !! Great Fun Here !!
 
The Tarn Gorges
See the Michelin Green Guide.   This is 31 miles of jaw dropping scenery. Go! Go! Go!
 
Cordes - Sur – Ciel  This fortified Village a "Sumptuous Ball of Stone" curled upon its mountain perch! Visit.
 
Averyron
Gorges – Valley. Superb one of our favourite visits very, very pretty.
 
Gaillac ( 1 hr drive)
Near Albi Charming day out - pretty pretty "The Gaillac Vine-yards A.O.C."  A must visit.!
 
Goats Farm ( 20 mins drive)
Ferme de Chevre Farm shop. Go and see the kids!!!
 
Pyrenees Mountain Range ( 2 hrs drive) Climb the mountains. Walk the walks, Search for the trail that "Hannibal" took. Ski. See the flora and fauna in abundance. Cross to Spain?

Mouth filling reds, lovely tastes of fruit. Many unknown finds here!!! A beautiful area to visit...Ask for Our Wine Tour Suggestions ..
 
Languedoc-Roussillon & Oc
Whites. clean, nice flavours, slight grape fruit tastes, some full bodied..in our cellar.!!
The Reds are dark & rich. Hard to Leave alone ????
